KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- A police officer with Afghan National Police (ANP) were injured as gun battle erupted between Taliban militants and ANP in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province in the wee hours Tuesday, an official said.
"It was 1 a.m. local time when militants attacked ANP check points in Dashti Archi district, and police repelled attack. As a result, an ANP officer got wounded," district chief Shikh Sadi told Xinhua.
Sadi also said that ANP inflicted causalities on enemy, but failed to give more details.
On the same day, Taliban's purported spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed in talks with media via cell phone that his men killed a dozen of policemen in the attack. The claim has been rejected by Sadi.
The war-torn Afghanistan has seen increasing Taliban-led insurgency throughout the country while U.S. President Barak Obamais near to announce whether to send thousands of additional troops to join 68,000 already on the ground to curb the deteriorating situation.
Other NATO countries have also contributed more than 40,000 troops to help Afghan and U.S. forces battling Taliban in the central Asian state.
